The Project
I sought to convince someone about a certain aspect of my professional capabilities. I most often use AI to persuade. I am always pleasantly surprised at how short an argument can be compared to the many words I am inclined to use. I expected a tight, pithy essay. I got so much more.
I referred to myself in the third person
I did not ask AI to talk about me, but instead, to talk about TangeetheREALTOR. I thought the writing would be limited to my prompts. However, I discovered that Chat GPT has been paying attention to me throughout my use of the product. I had unknowingly, thus honestly, presented the strengths and weaknesses I wanted to use to portray myself as a good candidate for a certain professional position. Reading Chat GPT’s assessment was quite enlightening, mainly because it told me things about myself I did not know others saw. I was pleased to read that according to AI, I bring “intellectual firepower” to a partnership. I might not have used as strong a phrase about myself. Maybe I had something to learn about my good qualities, lol. What was not to like about that…?
One Note of Caution
The subscription to the higher level of AI is paid by TangeetheREALTOR. Is it possible that AI could be using my inquiry as a chance to advertise itself? Is it conceivable that every answer produced by the service is, in some form or fashion, a commercial? Am I falling for flattery? Is it impossible to believe that flattering words are inherently untrue simply because it serves a purpose of leading a person to become a repeat customer? I acknowledge that my weaknesses were muted compared to the list of my strengths. It is possible I have paid for an advocate rather than an impartial critic, no matter how I prompt the service.
What was the Epiphany
AI is assessing me without my knowledge or instruction and that is a convenient source of food for thought. Maybe someone will learn something about how they are, or how others perceive them. Perhaps they will find subtle lessons in persuasion. I believe it is worth knowing what AI, in its various forms, thinks of its user.
